We are always learning new things in kindergarten. We learn in many different ways. Play is an important part of learning for young children. We go to music class, computer class, gym class and library each week. We have science and social studies in addition to our regular academic studies found below.
Each week we will learn about a new letter of the week. We will also work on sight words.
The kindergarten children will be bringing home a reader at the end of each week. Each reader is a short story that will contain the sight word that they practiced during the week.
What Are We Learning
Reading
During religion we will learn about many Bible stories throughout the school year. The first semester we will concentrate on the Old Testament in The Bible Story. The second semester we will learn about the New Testament in The Jesus Story. We go to Mass each week as a class and we sit with our 5th grade buddies.
Religion
Math
We use Saxon Math in kindergarten. The children learn through daily practice and hands on activites. Areas covered include: shapes, numeration, ordering and sorting, measurement, time, money, spatial relationships, operation and place value, and charts and graphs.
